My perspective on african americans:

I just don't understand. How can a person not want to embrace their heritage. African Americans have become stubborn because they are "informed" about "life" but easily swayed because they are "supporting" their kind. Our heritage: Slaves where labeled stubborn because of their firm stance on how much of an injustice slavery was. Because of their rebellious nature they were labeled opposite of their nature. To be informed is to be knowledgeable. I really want african americans to get off the couch and do something more than a club on friday nights. Integrate/infuse themselves into a different culture. The restaraunts, the galleries, and museums. I don't think that this will happen until we can get over ourselves. The need for this inside really controls my movement, being, how I present myself, and how involved I'm determined to be not only on this campus, but in life. This lust for more has affected other areas in my life. I can honestly say it has something to do with the level of attraction between me and possible girlfriends. Let's do more than a club and applebee's. Let's do arizona's and dialogues in the dark. It affects the way I dress. Although on any normal school day you might catch me in some sweats, I take a lot of pride in how I wear my clothes, not so much dress. Whether its sweats, slacks, or basketball shorts I can guarantee you will never see them hangin off my ass. Knowledge changes. Name one person with any significance who embraces heritage is "knowledgeable" and I guarantee you will see a person that enjoys the finer aspects of life.
*DISCLAIMER*-I still have my days where I like to have ignorant fun and party;its just balanced out by a lot of the opposite
